A couple of introductions...

The new friend in my life.
And some summer pants for little Asher...in all their humbleness and imperfection.... kid tested... ...plenty of "bending" room... ...and reader friendly... Last week I picked out patterns and fabric for my first attempts at sewing a few clothes for the babes. So...after much help from my mom (thanks mom!), plenty of mistakes, Charolotte's Web to keep Asher happy, along with uttering the phrase "oh well...it is my first project" a handful of times...I have completed my first ever sewing project! My inspiration came from SouleMama who made linen pants for her kiddos. Even though I thought it impossible, after making my first pair of pants...I am even more inspired by her talent...that goes for ANYONE who can sew with such ease and grace. But I seemed to have enjoyed the process because I already have my second project lined up...a sweet summer dress for Journey. So, what do you think? Be gentle...I'm just a beginner!

I actually like those little pants so much I was going to ask if you're taking orders in Mommy sizes. :) They look so comfy and so CUTE!
I just checked out your blog for the first time today, and it's really great, so keep up the good work!

Since Journey was born I have been wondering how long it would be before you took up sewing in order to make little frilly things for Journey. I never dreamed that your first effort would be a pair of summer pants for Asher. I even had it figured out in my mind that your Mom would be your teacher...there is nothing that daughter of mine can't do. I think it is a great accomplishment for you Jessie.....and sewing can be a great money saver too.

Just a word of caution....if you ever try a shirt for Asher please put the buttons on the right and the button holes on the left. My Mom was never any good at sewing and neither was your grandma, Juanita...but what scarred me for life happened in the first grade during the depression...the year 1934 to be exact when my Mom made her first attempt at sewing and it happened to be a shirt for me. I liked it until I put it on and the buttons were on the left and the holes on the right. I hated that shirt with a passion and never wore it unless she forced me too. Drawing the wash water from the well and heating it over a bonfire in the backyard and scrubbing on a wash board made it a necessity to wear it by force once in a while. I never knew exactly why that shirt was that way but after I got older I asked Mom why she put the buttons on the wrong side. She explained that girls have the buttons on their blouses or shirts on the left side and the button holes on the right and she just did it wrong on my shirt. Is that really true Jessie?? I have never once in all these years checked to see of Mom told me the truth or just made that up. But make sure if you make any shirts for Asher that you get them on the correct side or he might grow up all twisted and confused like his great grandpa! GG

I think that is true Gramps ~ the buttons on girls shirts on the the left. :) It would seem wierd to me to button a shirt with buttons on the right! :)How funny that you had such strong feelings over the buttons on your shirt.
Love ~ Jamie
